Getting out the VOTE!
November 4, 2008 – 1:18 pmWell it took about 45 mins to vote this morning, and I hate the little ink dot system. The location was not very morning friendly, and I ended up spending just over an hour getting it all done. I have been told by Christians for years that its my obligation to vote. I don’t see any law requiring me to vote, the Constitution is a Secular document, regardless of what anyone attempts to say to the contrary.
I voted today because, at least one of the candidates is a Socialist. He may not call himself that, but everything I have read, and seen about him indicates he is. The other is not much better. The independents, unelectable, and Ralph Nader? Well, when he’s gone I guess we will see what impact he had.
I believe in the freedom our country professes, and attempts to practice, day by day. It’s the reason we maintain our rank in the world, as pooly received as it is, or under appreciated, or utterly hated. Freedom is something to die for.
I voted because there are to many laws about spending my money. Money cannot fix the problems we have as a nation. Laws are being passed by judges. Hun? That’s right, judges making laws; its called precedent. If a precedent is set and not appealed or overturned, in essence it becomes de facto law. It impacts the way future courts rule on the same matter.
I voted not because I believe my vote will make the difference, but because, OUR votes can make a difference; IF we are wise in the way we wield them. I mean Wield too! Like a sword. I hate the bicameral system, there are way more views than the two party system allows for. And what do we get with the two party system, a bunch of divisive useless, angry, threatened, jabbering. Where is the substance?
Until we the voters demand substance, there won’t be any. Until we insist, and band together to find intelligent and meaningful ways to foster the path for substance, there won’t be any. I voted today because I believe WE THE PEOPLE have the power to make such changes. I voted today so I could begin having this conversation.
What do you think?
