Marble Game- H. Armstrong Roberts<\/p>\n

This was authored in August of 2010 –<\/p>\n

Sorrowful Slags gathered to sigh,
\nAs Akro’s and Pelter’s all said goodbye,
\nThe Handmade’s shivered as Marble King’s fell,
\nAnd Vitro, Jabo, and Master’s grew still,
\nTogether they marveled the circle was drawn,
\nCAC’s gathered to scrap and to faun,
\nThe Ravenswood’s halted each shining with pride,
\nAs children in laughter cast each one inside,<\/p>\n

The weary were captured and pocketed quick,
\nThe shooters and peewees withstood every lick,
\nAs knuckles and knees grew dirty in fun,
\nThe marbles all lived in the light of the sun,
\nWhere passion and pleasure cast aside gain,
\nSorrows rewarded in another new game,
\nWhere marvelous magic mystically met,
\nAnd Marbles were Champions until the sun set!<\/p>\n

Gathered in darkness they relived the day,
\nWhen Children in laughter brought them to play,
\nAnd huddled together some scuffed some worn,
\nThe new ones in envy longed to be born,
\nLife for a marble in yon days of yore,
\nWere never intended to sit in a drawer,<\/p>\n

Where prowlers, and glasses, and bright shining lights,
\nLooked for the young’uns who’d never seen light,
\nThe cracked and the beaten, the battered in pride,
\nWere left for the landfills and all set aside<\/p>\n

Childhood is a\u00a0 blessed gift, over to soon and often forgotten.
\nMarble collectors know and love childhood STILL!<\/p>\n
