This is a theme which Paul returns to again and again in the text of chapter 2. Titus is to teach the elder and younger men and women how to teach and encourage one another.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Titus&#8217; words, teaching and practice of life, are to be above reproach (equal to the qualifications found <strong>Titus 1:6-9<\/strong>, and <strong>1 Tim 3:1-13<\/strong>).\u00a0 But Paul goes further; repeating the instructions concerning sound (healthy, vibrant) teaching (sound doctrine) and sound (healthy, vibrant) faith.\u00a0 The idea here for the healthiness of the doctrine and faith are rooted in the Grace of God found in Christ.\u00a0 All teachings exhorting anything other than Christ are to be corrected and withstood as defined in preceding chapter.<\/p>\n<p>These instructions show the proper nature of the <em>Christian Family<\/em>, noting care for all of its members, those who are older and more mature (<strong>vv1-3<\/strong>), those who are younger and children (<strong>vv4-6<\/strong>), the Overseers themselves (in this case Titus), and even slaves in accordance with the Law of God (today we might think of the employee, employer relationships).<\/p>\n<p>As Paul concluded this section of instruction, he reinforces the theme of communicating all these truths, through authoritative exhortation and rebuke, with the caveat, Titus&#8217; actions in all things leave no room for others to look down upon him or despise him, since his walk and talk are to rooted in the grace love and mercy of Christ.\u00a0 The authority of serving Christ leaves our enemies unable to accuse us with anything more than lies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sermon Notes and Outline<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Communicate Sound Doctrine<br \/>\n(Deut 6:4-9, Eph 5:15-6:9; Titus 2:1, 6, 15)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>The Source of Sound Doctrine<br \/>\n(John 1:14ff; Eph 2:5-8; Heb 2:9ff)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Walking and Talking<br \/>\n(Galatians 5:16\u201326)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the second chapter to Titus, Paul&#8217;s emphasis is focused on encouraging Titus in his ability to live, practice and teach- not only through sound doctrine and faith, but by speaking and walking in the truth as a practical application, a living example (Rom 12).
