Life, Faith and Reason

Suffering is Necessary?

Sorrow is the reflection of a human soul upon the apparent sense of loss, or perceived frustration. There is a time to Cry and a time to Rejoice, a time for tear and laughter.  (Ecc 3:1-8).

Sorrow is necessary to inform us of the present state we are in, the fallen state of humanity.  Humanity in this state, sees suffering, sin, death and hatred, and cries out “TOLERATE!”  Christian distinctives are trashed, and called “HATE SPEECH!”  But the sincere posit of the Christians soul is the reflection upon and meditation in the fallen state.  They comprehend in themselves the hatred, vileness and failure to demonstrate a perfect love, perfect understanding, prefect giving, perfect practice of life.  They cry out, “HOW LONG” to the Creator of Heaven and Earth, and they know their cries are not futile, vain or empty.  They cry out for justice, and understand that justice is what was needed, is today supplied, and will tomorrow be received in perfection.  Humanities enemy is itself and as the Psalmist cries out against his enemies, so the Christian should cry out in 2014, asking for the God of Glory, to deliver us, individually and covenantaly in the mercy, love and justice of the only One who can deliver in Truth, the meaningful deliverance of Just Love.

Justice and Love are often seen as different things.  But Love which comes from God, is not the  “l o v e”   of this world.  Its final designation is solidified in justice, mercy, hope, truth, and every attribute of the One who has shared with us the evidences of the meaning of LOVE.  Christ on the Cross cried out to the LORD of Glory, can asked, “Why have You forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:45-50.)  Not in ignorance, not because He did not know, but as he did all things, that we might learn.  Human suffering, properly expresses sorrow, can sincerely with humility, cry out to the Living LORD and expect an answer.  This is not a license to question Him, deride His decisions, or mock His demonstrated plan.  But if the heart of those crying out are properly humbled, He not only hears but through His Spirit, prompts and provokes the human will to cry out thus (Romans 8:19-27).

What is the proper outcome of these cries?  Are they an accusation of injustice, or the cry of a fool longing to be heard for the bellowing of his lungs, the discontent of his station or want of more than he now sees?  What says the Psalmist-

But I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, Because He has dealt bountifully with me. (Psalm 13:5–6 NKJV)

Reflect upon the necessity of mercy and its origin.  What do you rejoice in?  Does SALVATION seem a small thing to you, a fairy tale?  Or do you sing to the LORD, because you understand, that in the midst of all trials and tribulations, He is working, He is blessings, He is demonstrating justice, He is pouring out His LOVE?

A Prayer:

Father for the inability of my heart to clearly see, the blindness of my eyes, and hardness of my heart.  Be merciful to me for thine own names sake.  May I and all Your children trust in YOUR Mercy, Rejoice in our hearts, and be filled up with Songs of Praise, bringing Glory to You, as the weakest vessels.  Deal bountifully with us LORD, and when we fail and fall, when we cry out HOW LONG grant us the blessed gift of Yours Spirits direction to restore us to the place where Your bounty is clearly seen, and our steps secured in that bounty.  A’men.
