March 26th & 28th 2008 JABO Sammy Hogue Run
Marbles were run on the 5/8″ machine “Sammy Sparkles” and on the 3/4″ machine Sammy’s “Big Brother”. With Dave McCullough’s help and Sammy Houge’s glass, Dale Simmons ran the actual marbles for this historic run. This was the first of many more of what came to be known as the experimental runs.
JaboLand noted in their identification of these that they
put the “adventures into aventurine marble runs”.

These marbles are credited with the rebirth of collecting enthusiasm in 2008. Initial sales of individual pieces were over $100. The run was relatively short, with a total run time of approximately 15 hours of which more than 50 different examples were made. The Team used special care using padded catching bins to prevent the typical damage associated with touch marks, and bin marks.

This runs followed the J.E.R.K. Runs in 2008 and was named after Dave McCullough’s grand daughter. It was reported that they had some of the first added Gold Lutz to the molten glass stream as they were being produced. The late Jack Rogers and Dave McCullough were the investors. This is a very limited run, shorter than the Joker I run.
June 27th, 2008 JABO Joker 2nd Run (Oxblood Aventurine Series)

September 11th & 12th, 2008 JABO Peltier Mansion Run
One of the earliest runs which came out of the JABO Marble Experiments in 2008 was the Peltier Mansion Marbles. These were the brain child of Boyce Lundstrum (1944-2012), who was a founding member of the Bullseye Glass Co. and a renowned Fusion Glass artist who loved pushing the edge in the glass art field. You can read more about Boyce here at the Washington Glass School Blog. On that journey he made many friends and became a avid collector of marbles. His passion lead to his purchasing of the Peltier Marble factory the Peltier Mansion which was annexed to the marble plant. He created the Peltier 1st and 2nd Run marbles which were a sparkler type which were largely given away. However he continued to tinker and test with a Miller Swirl Machine which was located on the Mansion property, but was frustrated by mechanical and other hindrances.
In late 2006, early 2007 Boyce with the assistance of his friend Michael Barton reached out to David McCullough who was the Vice President and Manager of the JABO Inc. Marble Company between 1991-2012, about doing a private run of marbles, and on September 11th & 12th 2008, this dream came to fruition.
Boyce along with Michael, and two additional friends John Triggs and James Armstrong, manned the JABO Equipment with the assistance of JABO team members, to make history happen. Boyce ever the glass tinker, insisted on complete control over the process of mixing and directing the glass production from beginning to end, an arrangement he has worked out with Dave McCullough ahead of time.
The resulting marbles included 19 families of marbles which included Red and Green Mica, Green, Black, and Red Aventurine, Yellow, White and Transparent based marbles, and the first ever Silver Metallic marbles. The Silver are among the rarest, if not the rarest JABO Experimental marbles ever produced. Michael Barton reported knowing of only 14 of which he knew, nine of which are featured here through his kind loan of the marbles for photography.
Boyce named most of the marbles, incorporating the name “Betty” into many of them. Among the most famous and recognizable are the “Pink Flamingos” which are a stark white base covered with a large pink patch accompanied by a dark black purple patch and green aventurine.
November 11th, 2008 JABO Eagle (aka Dirty Jobs) Run
Investor Hansel De Sousa along with Steve Smith worked together with Dave McCullough and JABO Team. This Run was made famous by being filmed and aired on the Discovery Channel’s TV Show “Dirty Jobs” starring Mike Rowe’s. The filming occurred while the Eagle run was being produced. The show aired in Season 7, in late 2010.
